IRS Warns of New E-Mail and Telephone Scams Using the IRS Name

New e-mail and telephone scams pose a risk of identity theft for taxpayers.

The IRS is warning about a variety of new phone and e-mail scams designed to cause taxpayers to provide personal information which then can be used for identity theft.  Among these scams is one involving the rebates currently being discussed as part of a proposed economic stimulus package.  Other scams involve refund offers, follow-up calls regarding uncashed refund checks, an e-mail with links to fake tax law change sites, and e-mails regarding audits.

Clients with questions concerning any communication regarding their taxes should not hesitate to contact their RSM McGladrey tax professional.  Please click here for more information on these scams.
