Kristine Magill, national managing director for state and local taxes for RSM McGladrey Inc., and a board member of the national Business Advisory Council to the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board, was quoted extensively in an article published in the Nov. 27-Dec. 10 issue of Accounting Today.

The article was titled Streamlined sales tax plan slowly gaining momentum, and discussed the Streamlined Sales Tax Project, which will develop measures to design, test and implement a sales and use tax system that radically simplifies sales and use taxes.

As of Jan. 1, 2007, 21 states will be participating in the project. In addition, over 1,000 companies have signed up for a program where amnesty from any penalties and interest, as well as any uncollected and unpaid sales taxes for items delivered or shipped to buyers in member states was given.
