RSM McGladrey Honors Norman R. Bobins with Lifetime Achievement Award
CHICAGO – RSM McGladrey awarded Norman R. Bobins with the RSM McGladrey Lifetime Achievement Award on Oct.18 for his outstanding commitment and service to the Chicago business community.
The company presented the award to Bobins at its 2007 Manufacturing and Wholesale Distribution Executive Summit in Oak Brook, where more than 240 manufacturing executives were in attendance.
“We take our hats off to Norm for his civic leadership and for being an outstanding corporate citizen,” Mendy Nudelman, executive managing director at RSM McGladrey, said in his presentation of the award. “He understands the interdependence of successful business and a thriving community. Thank you for setting the tone for others to follow.”
Bobins, who is retiring at the end of this year after a long and distinguished career in banking, is chairman emeritus of LaSalle Bank Corporation and former senior executive vice president of the Dutch parent, ABN AMRO Bank N.V. He is also serving a fourth, four-year term as a member of the Board of Education of the City of Chicago.
With a career spanning four decades, Bobins has contributed to the success of numerous banking institutions. He previously served as chairman, president and chief executive of LaSalle Bank, joining the bank after it acquired his previous employer, The Exchange National Bank of Chicago, where he was senior executive vice president and chief lending officer. Bobins started his career at American National Bank and Trust Company, serving in a variety of commercial lending positions before ascending to senior vice president.
Bobins has been honored by a multitude of civic and charitable organizations for his philanthropic efforts with various awards and distinctions, including the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith Distinguished Service Award, the American Jewish Committee’s 1992 Human Rights Medallion, the DePaul University 1999 Business Leadership Award, the 2000 Jane Addams Hull House Medal, the Boys & Girls Clubs 2002 Chairman’s Award, the 2003 University of Chicago Graduate School of Business’ Distinguished Corporate Alumnus Award, the 2005 Harvard Business School Club of Chicago Business Statesman Award and the National Museum of Mexican Art Arthur Velasquez Corporate Service Award 2007.
He serves on the boards of such civic organizations as the Auditorium Theatre Council, the Terra Foundation of American Art, the Children’s Brain Research Foundation, WTTW Communications Inc., The Field Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago.
The RSM McGladrey Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes distinguished business executives who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in business and civic involvement, and who, through their efforts, have made a significant contribution to the community and set an example for the leaders of tomorrow.
