Surveys and Benchmarking

For more than 40 years, RSM McGladrey has conducted some of the most recognized physician compensation surveys. We have a long history in evaluating and recognizing trends and opportunities in this area. Because we hold this data, we can also customize it to meet your needs. In addition, each year we collect financial benchmarking for multi-specialty groups, including staffing ratios by specialties, compensation levels for staff, professional and ancillary revenue, and expense data.

Organizations frequently use benchmarking as a method to determine areas for improvement. We work with you to provide the organization with quality data, cleaned for uniformity and presented in a manner that allows you to evaluate your performance. We place an emphasis on identifying the operating practices and processes that — when implemented — can produce superior performance. Following are some of the surveys we offer:

  • 2008 Medical Group Compensation and Financial Survey - Results Now Available. Enhance financial performance-benchmark against comparable medical groups. Read More

  • Large Clinic Group: Started in the 1970s, this group includes approximately 50 of the largest and most prestigious multi-specialty clinics in the country. By participating in this group, organizations receive data and reports derived from the large clinic physician compensation study and large clinic RVU benchmarking study. In addition, they receive valuable networking with peer groups, including annual meetings, mini-surveys and presentation of best practices. Learn more about our Large Clinic Group.
  • AMGA compensation and productivity survey:  In conjunction with the AMGA, RSM McGladrey conducts the annual AMGA compensation and productivity survey. Participants include more than 230 medical groups across the country, representing approximately 50,000 providers. Physicians in more than 140 specialties are included in the study, which also includes midlevel providers and administrative positions.  The report presents data for a wide scope of specialties, summarized by region and organization size (physician FTE).  Other summaries include fringe benefits, compensation for administration positions, and compensation and production information for academic facilities.
  • Financial benchmarking: Health care organizations have often relied on outside organizations to provide performance measures for finance, quality and utilization. Our financial benchmarking services help to ensure your organization is comparable with your market in key areas.
  • Midwest Regional Study: The Midwest Regional Study focuses on multi-specialty groups in this region of the country. Participating clinics have physician FTE range of 35-215 FTEs.  The purpose of this report is to provide information on compensation, gross charges, work RVUs, visits, the compensation/production and compensation per work RVU ratios, and other related information to clinics located in the Midwest. Data reported in the survey is from 50 participating medical groups and more than 5,800 providers.
  • Additional surveys: Other surveys that we offer include CPT/RVU, executive compensation and benefits. In addition, we provide confidential custom surveys that can help your organization pinpoint areas for improvement. Past custom surveys that we have completed include administrative benchmark study, anesthesiology study, transplant surgeons compensation study, and dermatology/MOHS compensation study.
