Optimizing Clinical Care Delivery

If you can answer “yes” to any of the following questions, your organization is likely experiencing clinical department deficiencies and, as a result, low patient satisfaction scores.

  • Are your staff vacancy and “time to fill” rates above industry benchmarks?
  • Are you experiencing excessive staff turnover?
  • Are you exceeding budgetary allowances for recruitment and retention?

RSM McGladrey assists healthcare organizations in identifying and making the necessary changes to improve clinical care delivery. We work with healthcare providers to improve recruiting and retention by finding ways to differentiate an organization to clinical professionals looking for not only financial benefits but also an environment that will enable them to maximize their professional skills. Through our Clinical Care Delivery Solution, we can help your organization create the culture, job roles and work environment that will appeal to the professional vision of your ideal clinical delivery position.

Our Approach
Our integrated approach involves a two-phase process. In Phase I, we analyze your organization’s present care-delivery model in order to

  • Identify key clinical roles and document relationships;
  • Analyze staff utilization;
  • Obtain qualitative input from clinical staff through focus groups and/or interviews;
  • Observe current clinical care processes;
  • Quantify and qualify data for potential time-saving and quality-improvement change among
    professional staff.

In Phase II, we develop a division-specific clinical care delivery model that optimizes professional expertise while eliminating redundancy in clinical care by

  • Developing communication tools that validate the data compiled in Phase I;
  • Comparing present utilization of professional staff to industry “best practices” to identify aspects of current job functions that may be eliminated or leveraged to alternative job classes;
  • Documenting a narrative vision of the desired clinical care delivery model as compared to the current model;
  • Developing budget-neutral core and flexible staffing plans that will support the clinical professionals in care delivery;
  • Revising job descriptions to clearly define accountability and expectations;
  • Developing communication plans to allow changes to cascade through the organization; and
  • Developing a balanced scorecard to track key performance.

Upon completion of the clinical care delivery improvements, your organization will have a design for a clinical model that is built around the healthcare professional and thus provides a competitive differentiator.
