Employment programs for minorities at RSM McGladrey
We recognize the importance of building diversity in our workforce and have taken a very strategic approach to reaching out and recruiting from a wide range of talent pools - to both experienced and entry-level professionals and minorities. Some of our recruitment initiatives focused on minorities include:
Creation of formal employee-resource groups such as our Diversity Employment Council and the RSM McGladrey Ambassadors who drive idea creation, diversity outreach and recruitment, volunteerism and resource acquisition, and leadership support to create and retain a diverse work force.
Creation of partnerships and alliances with professional associations which help diverse candidates with career planning and employment selection and include the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA), and Ascend-- The National Asian American Society of Accountants (NAASA). All of these organizations also offer our employees access to business, professional and leadership development opportunities, creating a win-win for both of us.
Advertisement in diversity media including magazines and Web sites targeted to diverse communities of peoples and candidates. All such diversity media includes Black Collegian, the aforementioned professional associations and their publications (NewsPlus,Achieve, LaCuenta), university newspapers and others.
Participation in recruitment fairs and on-campus recruitment efforts while being focused on building partnerships with colleges and universities that have diverse student populations such as select Historic Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions in support of our national requirements. We aggressively support and recruit at these institutions while providing internships and scholarships to provide a learning experience and to anchor candidate interests and employment.
Sponsorship as National Partners for the regional and national conferences and career fairs of NAASA, NABA and ALPFA.
Finally, the special skills required for our business and the limitations on qualified candidates imposed by those skills have extended our reach into the community of foreign nationals attending U.S.graduate education and those living abroad. Our employment outreach has been recognized by Black Collegian Magazine.
We also recognize the importanceof workforce development, progress and retention. We strive internally tocreate a compelling employeeexperience by building a culture of respect and encouraging fun. Our focuson WorkLifeflexibility is an important part of that. Recent external surveys havedemonstrated that flexibility is the number 1 and 2 most desired benefit amongAfrican American women and men, respectively. Flexibility is critical to ourretention objectives. As Steve Tait , president of RSM McGladrey has said, “Aculture of flexibility is critical to our business success and is the rightthing to do for our employees, our clients and our company.” The quality andextension of our programs has been recognized by WorkingMother magazine and others.
