Iowa: The Origin of Our Firm

The first in our now nationwide chain of offices began when Ira B. McGladrey bought the Cedar Rapids and Davenport offices of Billings, Prouty and Tompkins in 1926. The firm grew slowly at first, but Ira McGladrey worked to make accounting a reputable profession, and he affected many changes to accounting standards, including leading the effort to make the Certified Public Accountant license mandatory for those engaged in public accounting. Today, the Iowa Association of Business and Industry ranks us as the largest accounting firm in Iowa, with 800 employees in the state.

With eight offices located throughout the state, we serve many of the top regional leaders in manufacturing and distribution, construction and real estate, health care, financial services and the public sector. Our Charitable Efforts
Beyond serving our clients’ needs, our professionals devote their time, money and efforts to several local charities and activities, including the United Way, Junior Achievement, blood drives, the School-to-Work e-mentoring program, job shadowing, Angel Tree, Day of Caring, the March of Dimes and local Jaycees.
